Sucked in

I went to see Mamma Mia this afternoon with my friend R. We loved the movie and laughed ourselves stupid, though I think it may be a matter of generational taste. She and I, however, agreed that it was very Shakespearean and very operatic, full of the joy of life, and rife with some very funny sampling/hommage moments including two adorable bits of self-mockery from Colin Firth, in by far the best and most endearing of the performances by the three actors playing possible dads.

BUT ... the most exciting moment of the afternoon took place after we had repaired to the pub to post-mortem the movie and generally catch up.

Because she showed me her new iPhone.

Yes, Yes! I went and saw this with my mother yesterday, and we were the only ones in the cinema laughing...and the whole way though it.

Despite a number of stinker reviews, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Although when I mentioned to mum that it was quite Shakespearean she looked a bit nary. Anyway, it was great fun. I adored the 'Dancing Queen' sequence with all the women and girls running around the island and jumping in the water!

Oh good.I saw the trailer and thought it looked fun and then the weight of sneering made me start to doubt myself.

And I got an iPhone o Friday and it is tremendous fun.

The Bloke's annoying colleague told him last week that he wanted an iphone, but he wasn't "going to line up with all the other idiots" on the day they became available. The Bloke didn't feel the need to correct the grammar on that one. The Bloke obviously wants an iphone too, but not enough to sell the kid to finance the plans available in Australia.

Dr Cat, as my daughter would say, you are hip and happening.

David Stratton loves that film, BTW. He and Margaret did a splendido face-off over it last week.
And I was deeply moved by the photo of Agnetha, Meryl and Annifrid in the Sat. Age.

I would prefer to have the employment that your friend has, than have her iphone.
It is heartening to see the QUEUEs of people across Australia with enough money for this thing.

re the movie - I cannot bring myself to hear POOR vocals on the songs ... was it really OK?
ABBA Arrival is on my Top 10 Albums list.

They can't all sing all that well, but Meryl Streep is a terrific singer as you'll know if you saw Prairie Home Companion (?), and the CHILD playing her daughter was obviously cast at least partly for her voice. Christine Baranski and Julie Walters can also sing so the girly choruses are great. Colin Firth has a high, very sweet and in-tune tenor voice that isn't given anywhere near enough to do. Pierce Brosnan sings like an actor hitting the notes by sheer force of will, so you will probably hate that.

Thank you dear Pcat.
Years ago my Lamington Records label put out a single called Salute To ABBA and it sold very well.
What a watchable cast.
I will now check the local cineplex website.
