And just in case you still thought it had anything to do with talent ...

... just remember that Reigan's gone, Lavina's gone, Bobby's gone -- and Ricky Muscat is still there.

We cried! All of us. Good grief.

3C, I also shed a tear.

HOWEVER, I only ever wanted Bobby to come second as the idea of squeezing him into an Idol-winning-popstar world did not bear contemplation. I think he's taken all the good that Idol had to give him already.

(But Ricky's not so terrible, Pav. Idol has more to give him - he'll go on to be a minor recording dude (even if he wins) but at least won't have to work in a chemical factory anymore.)

Oh, and Reigan sang truly awful songs and was up herself. IMHO.

All true, Z -- but I'm thinkin' strictly musical talent here for the moment. Ricky is sweet but is now well out of his league musically. Reigan did indeed seem a pain but had a fantastic voice.

I thought the James Taylor group number was really interesting in what it revealed about the various musical skills or lack of -- Irish Dude aced it and Lisa was also v. good, maybe the song suited her voice. Jess was carefully not given any harmonies -- and it's now clear to me that she's not capable of carrying them -- Erina (sp??) was right, the poor child really can't sing reliably in tune. Nor apparently can she finish a sentence, or eat without ruining her ("her") clothes. Neither bodes well for stardom.

Littlefaeriegirl, if you realise your dream and get close enough to Dean to find out, I want you to come back and tell us what he's got in his hair.

Remember that most original singers get the flick on Idol by about round 5 or 6. Lee harding only got to 3 because of the Wiggle factor.

Yes, El, quite right. I am monumentally p*ssed off about Chanel Cole (#5) to this day.

Does anyone know what the real story was with her and Marcia?

'Do do do do'?

Pavcat, as a sign of my great respect and affection for you I shall undertake to hunt down the answer from the colleague of mine who watched Sunday's show with Chanel (who has just moved in with his mate).

Might take a while, but I'm sure we'll find out. I get determined about the serious stuff.

No, never. I always thought it was some kind of showcase for the judges. Not that I've actually watched anything more than the ads. Life's too short.

I thought you said you weren't going to watch this show anymore...

Hope you're not watching the "Idol's Choice" show that is on as I type.

Idols are singing their own 'songs'. Seems to me to just be 3 chords each and some bad teenage poetry.

Snore.

Idol's nothing to do with ability - its a popularity contest.

Good golly, PC! You watch Idol? I thought you were above such things! (I'm not above such things, since I've barely missed an episode - sob! so many hours of my life I'll never get back!) If you haven't already found it, visit Petstarr at http://blandcanyon.blogspot.com.au for ze best line in Idol wrap-ups.

Redcap, there is very little that I am above, and a great deal that I am beneath.

I have had the honour of making PetStarr's acquaintance, and she is as much fun in person as she is en blogue.
