'The Government says no claims of abuse against David Hicks have ever been proven.'
*Waits for other shoe to drop*
*Keeps waiting*
*Crickets*
Okay, I'll do it:
NO CLAIMS AGAINST DAVID HICKS HAVE EVER BEEN PROVEN EITHER, YOU BASTARDS.
THAT IS THE POINT.
Thank you.

Why am I so suspicious that the rodent is saving up this issue for the election, as in, look at me, I'm the one who's bringing him home.
Jahteh is perfectly correct. There is a minor but significant change coming over the government's view of David Hicks. This will be their 2007 "Tampa" issue.
Perhaps. But if bringing Hicks home is then a sign of their humanity, then his horrible imprisonment still stands to condemn them. If to bring Hicks home allows them to trumpet through a trial the still remaining dangers of terrorism, wont the legal niceties of his involvement with a legally constitiuted government in Afghanistan ( as reprehensible as we find them), that he had not breeched any Aust laws, & that his imprisonment was itself illegal, cause far far more problems than it offers as electoral bait? I'm not sure what gain the rodent sees in this - I think it more likely that they will up the murmurming about bringing him back, claim due US process as the hindrance & very very carefully make sure he doesn't return BEFORE the next election.
Considering the state he seems to be in by now and the amount of media coverage he'd get, you'd think the last thing they'd want before the election would be Australia getting a good look at him.
