Cat photograph, about 95% gratuitous

'Twas the night before Christmas ...

This pic is posted in support of Kate and Laura and their campaign to put the cred back in pet blogging. The 5% non-gratuitousness is of course the seasonal appropriateness of looking up the chimney.

It saddens me that a cat photo might be enough to make someone bugger off from one's blog in disgust and never look at it again, but what does that say about them? Does one really want ailurophobic or otherwise unimaginative readers? Personally I think of it as a form of triage.

And now for some wet comments...ohhhhh, sweet!

Are they from the same litter? They only look young.

These are the tortoiseshells, from above, when kittens. The RSPCA said they were approx 10 and 12 weeks when I got them -- they weren't sure -- but it's quite obvious to me after five years that they're actually sisters. No prizes for guessing which is the alpha sibling though.

(said quite happily in high-pitched girly voice) 'kawaii!'

Indeed -- although if Santa comes crashing down that chimney, it'll be more a case of Goodbye Kitty.

I support pet blogging. I think Laura is spot on to recognise the boy-ist "public sphere" element to the disdain of praising the joys of connection and domesticity. Anyone who complains about cat blogging should be shut in a small but very comfortable room and made to listen to the second album of Kate Bush's "Aerial" until they get the point.

A merry holiday to you and yours, Ms Cat. It has been a great pleasure to watch the arrival of another interesting and thoughtful woman in the fray. I look forward to reading lots more of you.

wqdgu!

I came here to ask 1. if the cats were listening to a mouse in that chimney, and 2. Have you been to that catsinsinks.com site?; then i saw the damn fine comment above from CrazyBrave, so now I want to mention how very kind and helpful she was to me when I started blogging.p-p-p-rrrrr

1) No mouse that I know of, though rodents are not completely unknown in this old house. (They might have been listening to bits of the chimney falling off.) The kits were new from the RSPCA when this photo was taken and had just started to recover from the 30 km car ride (unlike myself) enough to start exploring.

2) There's a whole SITE called catsinsinks? Mine only get into the sink (bathroom) when it's very hot. Same principle as Zoe with her foot in the toilet or so I assume.

3) Zoe is a very good example to us all. I stumbled across her blog when Googling for something or other several months before I learned anything about blogging, and thought Oh how wonderful, I'd LOVE to do that.
