Halloween

Here on the Eve of All Hallows I am reminded by the Weatherpixie's pumpkin, which I probably wouldn't have noticed (being too focused on the lovely lovely rain) if Elsewhere hadn't mentioned that her own Weatherpixie is also accompanied by a big orange veg of the gourd persuasion, that I am likely to be constantly interrupted watching House and Criminal Minds tonight by local children and, alas, mid-teenagers (if the last few years are anything to go by) out bashing on the neighbourhood doors demanding chocolate with menaces.

I'm a bit torn about this. I have gone so far as to buy a couple of supermarket bags of so-called 'fun size' Mars Bars and things to distribute to such small ghosts and witches and skeletons as may happen by at dusk, but anyone who knocks on my door after 8.15 pm will be told that if they're old enough to be out cruising the streets after dark then they're too old to be bludging chocolate from strangers. I might even seriously torture them by giving them a lecture on the evils of cultural imperialism and the details of the original Samhain.

Turn as many lights off as possible so most of them assume you aren't home. Either that or post a note on the door saying "sorry out of chocolate". Could save you getting up in the middle of the interesting bits.

Scary things outside front doors that aren't culturally imperialist?
You could try what my neighbours have just done, and dump great big sheets of crumbling thirty year-old fibro in an open skip bin.
Trick or asbestosis, kids.

Damn, I was in a bulk store today purchasing figs for my daughter's final performance piece for drama school and only bought one packet of chocolate coated Turkish Delight. Yummy it is, too. Maybe I can finish it off before sundown...either that or put on my White Witch clobber and get out my sleigh.

My mother is American and always told us we couldn't go trick or treating because it's not really celebrated in Australia. That really annoyed me, but I have said pretty much the same thing to my son. It's not really something we go for in a big way, so I figure it would be embarassing to knock on people's doors and ask for sweets when most of them are unlikely to have even thought about it. I don't know though, it's a tricky one.

It Halloween here tonite but after 2 15 hour days I'm buggered.Driving home I had to dodge many Ghosts, Pumpkins and Pirates. Some of the lawn decoration around here are awesome. If I could be bothered I should go and take some photos...but I'm very tired. Lame I know for my first American Halloween.
I did buy some Gummy Body Parts, which my Mother-In Law is doling out.

Mindy, that's exactly what I did until it was very dark and I could safely wander out to watch Criminal Minds. That is a very good and sometimes scary show but I wish 7 hadn't put it on twice weekly as it always means they're in a hurry to get rid of it.
