Pavlov's Law

The lost gold earring will always turn up. But it will only turn up after you have gone out and bought a new pair.

That Rule is absolutely accurate.
I have proved it myself
(with a Husquvarna sewing machine $70 bobbin holder - I had searched everywhere but in with the laundry in a basket waiting to be hung, but abandoned for the completion of urgent sewing for teenage daughter).
Comiserations PC.

Which is why I am so surprised that having replaced my phone charger (through the wonder that is ebay), the old one still hasn't turned up.

A family friend once lost an engagement ring for twenty years. After this time, her husband bought her a replacement. They then discovered the old one. In their gravel driveway. This is a true story. Good thing they hadn't moved.

No, it never does turn up. Not in my experience. Nor does the necklace you bought from Parap market and 'put in a safe place' when you came home tired one evening. Ditto the presta valve attachment for the bike pump.

I have a whole collection of single earrings...

I have two holes in each ear, and when I am feeling adventurous I wear four different non-matching earrings that seem to go well together.

Since I put that post up this morning I have discovered more gold earrings that I thought were lost forever, a beautiful pair made of white, yellow and rose gold that I bought to wear with a necklace of the same three-colours-gold. I'd gone out and bought replacements for them, too. Why don't I ever lose the cheap earrings?

I know exactly where I lost one of the little jade hearts. But I'm not in any position to go back there after all these years and look for it.

You never lose the cheapies. The two dollar tacky dangly ones will live forever.

Any with monetary or sentimental value are immediately marked by gobblins for munching on, and disappear shortly after you decide you really really really love them.
