Not-at-all-Dolce (& Gabbana)

"We were looking to recreate a game of seduction in the campaign and highlight the beauty of our collections," the designers said.

So here's a question: if they think this image conveys a 'game' about 'seduction' and 'beauty', what sort of image would they have come up with to illustrate an actual gang rape?

  1. Very strange notion of beauty. Promoting the product? 65% of the shot is about undressed humans, 30% clothes that look like newly washed King Gee outfts. Could be a recruiting poster for the US military..
& the shining oily thing - goes with the implicit threat of violence? not to mention the Photoshopped thinness of 'em all. Which i wasn't going to mention. Very strange notion of beauty.

  2. Someone has been watching too much porn if they think that is an image of seduction. Disturbing more than anything, and would certainly put me off buying their clothes, if I was silly enough to buy their label in the first place.

  3. Nice shoes, though.

(Yes, I agree. That looks to me to be all about power and nothing to do with seduction)

  4. "Miss, are you okay?"

She looks like she's fainted from anorexia and they have no idea what to do except for the guy with the weird quasi-Taxi Driver haircut.

I don't know, when i see male models rape isnt exactly what first springs to mind.

But your comment made me laugh out loud.

  6. It's pretty clever marketing seeing that the newspapers covering the story about banning the ad in Italy felt they had to use (at least a cropped version) as illustration.

What a shame the shoes are so pretty!

  7. I'm quite impressed by her semi-backbend. That's a difficult position to maintain.

  8. Why couldn't we have it the other way round with the bloke on the receiving end? At least we'd have a better look at the clothes and I have to admit, I love the shoes but only to look at.

  9. See? See! It's not just me who likes the shoes.

  12. Apparently their whole fashion parade was OTT with leather and rubber and masks etc. Methinks one (or all) of the designers has discovered a new recreational pastime. It's a bit yawn-making, really.

  13. That last comment was directed at their new-found hobby, not the politics of the ads, which I think are reprehensible.
